Description

SUMMARY

Nurse Practitioner-Medical reports to the Medical Director and/or Director of Medical Services. All assigned duties must be within the scope of practice of the supervising physician and appropriate as per the education, training, and experience of the nurse practitioner, medical.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Evaluate patients who have history of mental health disorder or exhibiting symptoms of mental health disorder

  • Provide psychiatric assessment and medication management of co-occurring psychiatric conditions that can be managed within the residential setting

  • Conclude a medical assessment within 7 days of admission and a full physical and history, when necessary, within 21/45 days of admission

  • Conduct a medical assessment of physical and mental health conditions and medical treatment to stabilize and then enable the patient to manage chronic health and mental health conditions including treatment of physical health conditions that are routine

  • Meet the medical assessment and treatment needs of each patient

  • Provides safety assessment for withdrawal symptoms or other potentially life-threatening behavior or conditions within 24 hours of admissions

  • Notifies on call physician of immediate crisis

  • Conclude a medical assessment within 7 days of admission and a full physical and history, when necessary, within 21/45 days of admission

  • Documenting in the Medical Record past medical history, physical findings, diagnoses, treatment plan, written orders, and prescriptions if indicated

  • Ensure that all necessary follow up, either with outside clinics, physician, or NP is both ordered and obtained.

  • Responsible to evaluate for follow up or sick call, any patient who has been triaged by a facility nurse

  • Will provide care and supervise the transfer of patients to the emergency room as warranted

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Graduated from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current unrestricted NYS nurse practitioner license

  • Current certification in CPR, Infection Control and Child Abuse

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Qualified by training, education, and experience in providing medical care and assessment, in collaboration with a physician, to chemically addicted patients and patients withdrawing from alcohol and or drugs

  • Three Years related experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in an indoor medical clinical environment.This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Appropriate gloves required.
