Phoenix House Fitness & Athletic Trainer in Citra, Florida


This position will work with patients in our adult residential substance use treatment programs. Will oversee and direct aerobic activities, specifically spinning and stationary bike routines, strength training, specifically TRX, and stretching on mats and balls and appropriate floor routines for the individual class. We will not have free weights.


Work with adult and adolescent patients of all fitness levels, with an emphasis on proper technique and functional movements

Demonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routines

Watch patients do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness

Give alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill

Monitor patients’ progress and adapt programs as needed

Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment

Ensure all CARF standards are instituted and maintained

Continue professional growth by attending workshops, trainings and staff in-service trainings to increase skill and knowledge and to set appropriate example for staff

Maintain current certifications as required


Bachelor’s degree related to a fitness field (exercise science, physical education, kinesiology or related subject)

3 years of experience working with patients with substance use disorder or PTSD

International Fitness Professional Association certification preferred

CPR and First Aid certification

Experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant preferred


Upon selection for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully pass the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Level II background check and the Department of Corrections (DOC) background check.
